Once a small settlement that grew up around a pearling camp, Denham is now the main administrative and population centre of the Shark Bay area. Located on the western coastline of Peron Peninsula, with views across the waters of Shark Bay towards Dirk Hartog Island, it is an attractive town with a lot to offer. Totally surrounded by the World Heritage Area, it is an excellent place from which to explore the natural attractions.

The tourism industry is a key employer for the 800 residents of Denham and there are a range of service in town to cater for tourists, Whilst you explore the World Heritage Area you can easily spend a week or more based in Denham, withe everything you need close at hand.


Denham is 128km from the Northwest Coastal Highway via a fully sealed road. It is approximately 840km by road from Perth, 330km from Carnarvon and 420km from Geraldton. Denham is 24km from Monkey Mia via a sealed road. Flights linking Denham with both Perth and Carnarvon run three times per week and arrive at the airport located 6km from town. Skippers Aviation is the only airline that services the Shark Bay area.
