The second annual By the Bay exhibition brings together six new Western Australian artists based in, or with strong connections to, Gathaagudu/Shark Bay in the State’s remote Gascoyne region. Like the inaugural exhibition in 2025, the 2026 iteration presents new work by artists of different ages, cultural backgrounds, artistic mediums and levels of professional experience, but who all draw inspiration from the unique environment and culture of this most remarkable part of Australia’s west. As with the 2025 exhibition, several key themes, materials and preoccupations emerged early in the curatorial process linking the work of these highly diverse practitioners. The result is a richly varied yet surprisingly cohesive exhibition that takes full advantage of the dramatic potential of the Rose de Freycinet Gallery.
