Artist Profile: Christine von Schill

Christine von Schill is a self-taught artist whose lifelong connection to the Australian outback is central to her practice. Born in Dubbo and based in Western Australia since the early 1970s, Christine has lived and worked across the state, drawing inspiration from its remote landscapes and rich biodiversity.
Her detailed pen and ink drawings, wildflower pressings, and woodwork reflect a deep reverence for nature in all its rugged beauty. Now based in Shark Bay, Christine’s work captures the region’s delicate seasonal changes — from dry scrublands to vibrant bursts of life after rain.
For By the Bay, she presents a series of pieces created from local hardwoods, native flora, and found natural objects. Bones, feathers, and seed pods become sculptural elements, honouring the textures and forms of the land she calls home.
