Artist Profile: Jake Mason

Jake Mason is a wildlife photographer, cinematographer, and dive instructor whose practice is rooted in ocean conservation.
Originally from the UK, Jake has spent his career capturing compelling marine imagery around the globe, using visual storytelling to inspire environmental action. Since arriving in Shark Bay in 2023, he has been driven by the region’s extraordinary marine life and its status as one of the world’s healthiest ecosystems.
For By the Bay, Jake presents a meditative drone-based film that offers a bird’s-eye view of the marine life that inhabits Shark Bay’s turquoise shallows. Featuring intimate footage of endangered species like the white-spotted wedgefish and the region’s iconic dolphins, his work blends cinematic beauty with quiet advocacy. Narrated with quotes from ocean champions of the past, the piece invites viewers to slow down and see the ocean not just as scenery — but as story, memory, and responsibility.
